The research of this project revolves around the writer’s behaviour with on-screen writing space, the external elements of a computer (the keyboard, the mouse and the screen) and the relations within one or more languages. Inspired by the multilingual nature of our work relationship we have focused on the following languages: English, Dutch and Portuguese. The mind uses the cognitive process of inner speech to organise its thoughts while writing or reading; it seems inner speech is also used to store bits of information (previous sentences or text) in order to ease memory load in both writing and reading. When compared to other types of writing ( e.g. using a pen or a typewriter) the coexistence between thinking and typing becomes more perceptible and associative on screen. One could then suggest that the spatial character of electronic writing space is transparent. A writer has the possibility to alter, accept, reject, revise and modify their documents; they can therefore treat the text as transparent units of thought.
